Step-By-Step Instructions

1

Make sure you have an adult to help you.
Time to gather your baking tools. For this recipe, you will need a cake tin, three mixing bowls, whisk, spatula, skewer, baking paper, measuring cups, measuring spoons, sieve

2

Now gather your ingredients. For this recipe you will need 1 ¾ cups flour, ½ cup cocoa, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 cup Chelsea sugar, 125g butter, 2 Tbsp Chelsea Golden Syrup, 2 eggs, 1½ cups Milk, 2 tsp Baking soda, 1 tsp vanilla essence.

For the Icing, you will need 1½ cups Chelsea Icing Sugar, 1 Tbsp cocoa powder, 50g butter softened, 2 Tbsp water

3

Preheat oven to 180°C bake.

4

Grease and line a 20cm round cake tin. To learn more, watch this video on How to Prepare Baking Tins.

5

Mix together Standard Grade Flour, cocoa, Baking Powder and Chelsea White Sugar

6

Melt together the butter and golden syrup in the microwave on high for about 1 minute

7

In another bowl whisk the eggs, then whisk in the milk, baking soda and vanilla.

The trick with whisking is to move the whisk back and forth in the bowl not round and round.

8

Beat everything altogether on medium for 1 minute.

9

Using a spatula spoon everything into your prepared tin.

10

Bake for 50-60 minutes.

To test it is properly baked, put a skewer into the centre of the cake and pull it out, the skewer should be clean.

Let it cool completely on a wire rack.

11

While the cake is cooling, we can make our icing.

Place all of your icing ingredients into the bowl.  Beat on low to combine, then increase the speed to high beat until creamy and smooth

12

Use a spatula to place the icing on the cooled cake. Then use a combination of the spatula and the back of a spoon to spread the icing smoothly over the cake.

13

Enjoy!
